Ukraine

Some Americans are suggesting that we should stop supplying Ukraine with weapons to fight the Russian invasion. They say that Kiev is far away and not our concern—that American money would better be spent on Americans. This was the attitude that Chamberlain and other Western leaders took in 1938. They acquiesced to a madman for “peace in our time,” a response that resulted in the deaths of over 70 million people across the world. No one with good sense believes that Putin will be satisfied with just Ukraine. Who would be next? Moldavia? Finland? Poland? Great Britain? Each country that falls leaves the United States weaker than it is today.

Right now, Ukraine is fighting not just for its survival. It is the front line of defense for all of the western world. The conquest will not stop if it surrenders. The Ukrainian people are providing the soldiers and are absorbing the devastation that rains down upon their cities and villages. We should sacrifice whatever it takes in money and weapons to insure that they do not fail. That is far superior to having to commit our sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers to the war that is sure to follow if they fail.

We must not cower under Putin’s nuclear blackmail. If we do, he can use the same threats to force us to retreat on all fronts and ultimately to lose our freedom. A sane person would not unleash a nuclear war unless his country faced annihilation. That is not the case here. No one is threatening Moscow or St. Petersburg. The fighting is all taking place outside of Russia. We need to stand firm with the Ukrainian people and not let a tyrant steal their land and their freedom because they are fighting for everyone who values liberty.
