Without Fail by Lee Child

Without Fail Lee Child

I just gave up reading Without Fail by Lee Child.  He is one of my favorite writers, and Jack Reacher is one of my favorite characters, but this sixth book in the Jack Reacher series did not compare well to the others.  A woman in the secret service recruits Jack to help prevent an assassination of Vice-President-elect Armstrong.  The characters do not come to life, and if someone had shot Jack in the head, I would have just shrugged.  The plot became very confusing when “Armstrong” died twice and yet still seemed to be alive.  I re-read the scenes several times before plodding on to discover in a subsequent scene that the people who died were not the vice-president but only people with the same last name.  These mental gymnastics took me out of the story and I lost interest.
