I’m Sam Cromartie, a military veteran and retired thoracic surgeon turned writer and book author. I’ve been writing novels and screenplays for decades, using my experience from my previous careers to write stories that will entertain people.
A Little About Me and My Previous Lives
I grew up in the South at a time when the country was split on its opinions of a deeply unpopular war. In 1962 I entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I earned degrees in chemistry and medicine.
After completing my surgery internship at the University of Miami School of Medicine, I joined the Army under the Berry Plan and was deployed to Vietnam in 1971. Subsequently, I completed surgical residencies at University of Miami, Louisiana State University, and Medical University of South Carolina.
I served on the faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine and was chief of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida for many years.
I began writing during my residencies and have continued since that time.

I’ve produced a variety of fiction and nonfiction novels that draw upon my experience in the military and my experience as a physician. Additionally, I’ve written a number of scientific articles published in multiple medical journals. My works include the following:
Reach Out to a Well-Traveled and Experienced Author
I have traveled extensively, visiting all six continents, all fifty states of the United States, and 56 countries. I enjoy snow skiing and have skied in France, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, and throughout the Western USA.
